What Do These Mods Do?
Clipping Diode Upgrade
The stock clipping diodes are replaced with carefully selected 1N4001 silicon diodes to produce a smoother clipping character with a more natural feel. The result is an overdrive that responds more like a driven amplifier, with less harshness while retaining the touch sensitivity that makes the Blues Driver so popular.
Tone-Shaping Capacitor Upgrades
Selected capacitor values are changed to rebalance the pedal’s EQ. These changes help tame some of the stock pedal’s bright top end while producing a tighter, fuller low-frequency response, giving the pedal a warmer and more balanced sound.
Phat Mod Switch (Deluxe & Ultimate)
The BD-2 naturally rolls off some low frequencies, which can make it sound thin with certain guitars and amplifiers. The Phat Mod adds a toggle switch that increases the bass response, giving the pedal a thicker, warmer voice while retaining the clarity and dynamics of the original circuit. Leave the switch off for classic Blues Driver tones, or flip it on for a fuller, more amp-like sound.
Fuzz Mode Switch (Ultimate)
Why limit the Blues Driver to overdrive? The Ultimate package adds a dedicated Fuzz Mode, letting the pedal switch between its familiar Blues Driver circuit and a unique fuzz voice at the flick of a toggle. Combined with the independent Phat switch, this dramatically expands the pedal’s tonal range, making it equally at home as a versatile overdrive or a characterful fuzz.
Love Sound Devices Signature Finish
Every modified BD-2 receives a subtle cosmetic upgrade to reflect the work that’s been carried out. This includes premium replacement knobs, a distinctive green status LED and a Love Sound Devices modification badge, making it easy to identify your pedal while maintaining the classic Boss aesthetic.

Can My Boss Pedal Be Modded?
This modification is only available for older BD-2 pedals built with through-hole components. Newer pedals use surface-mount (SMD) components that are too small and densely packed to modify safely, so this service isn’t currently available for them.
